Fireworks at New Year

In the Netherlands, many people set off fireworks, in the street, into rubbish tins, at cyclists, as well as into the air between about December 30th and January 1st. In 2005 we walked around the neighbourhood at about 1 a.m., and it was a frightening as rockets flew past, just missing me once when I crossed the street. Usually however we stay inside, watching it all from the windows. The main affect is all the smoke and acidic air afterwards.
