A Tangled Taleby Sonja van Kerkhoff, 1997
About 100 batiked strips of cloth.
150 x 50 x 50 cm.
Sections from stories about real and metaphysical stories in New Zealand Maori, Dutch and English.
The sections in Maori and English come from
The Matriarch by Witi Ihimaera
and the text in Dutch is Gedenktekens, a story I wrote.
At the top of the form the strips are plaited and then hang in a more or less random order
so that the order of reading is determined partly by chance and by the letters that the participant maybe
recognize and take in her hands to read.
